Sattal or Sat Tal is an interconnected group of seven freshwater lakes at an elevation of 1370 mts in the Lower Himalayan Range near Bhimtal, a town in Uttarakhand, India. The seven lakes are the Purna Tal, Ram Tal, Sita tal, Laxman Tal, Nal Damyanti Tal, Sukh Tal and Garud Tal.


Sattal is set amidst dense forests of oak and pine trees in the Mehragaon valley.It is one of the few unspoiled and unpolluted fresh water biomes in India. Its unique biodiversity and ecological factor makes it a paradise for avian fauna with 500 species migratory and resident birds. It is a home to 20 species of mammals. An insects world- teeming in multitudes, with 525 species of butterflies, 11,000 species of moths, beetles, bugs and other insects. A wide range of flora is found here, rare and diverse like Bryophytes, orchids, creepers, ferns, lichens, fungi, medicinal herbs and shrubs. During the British rule, the area had a tea plantation, one of four in the Kumaon region.


Tranquil and serene, this sleepy haunt with several trekking trails and loads of activities on the outskirts of Nainital is a perfect getaway for adventure seekers. It has a few campsites run by the locals catering to tourists looking for outdoor vacations.
