Rajasthan, the largest state of the Republic of India as per area, is located in the northwest of the country bordered by her neighbour, Pakistan to the west, the states of Gujarat to the southwest, Madhya Pradesh to the southeast, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to the northeast and Punjab to the north. The state capital, Jaipur with the sobriquet of 'Pink City', is the largest city of the state.

Rajasthan is vibrant, magical and exhilarating with a haunting air of romance which is palpable in its every nook and cranny. This is one of the most exotic locales for tourist world over, where tradition and regal grandeur merge in a riot of colours against the immense backdrop of the arid desert and colossal sand dunes. It reflects an unusual diversity and alluring charm through its entire form - people, customs, fascinating culture and rich heritage, costumes, music, art and craft, dialects, cuisine, beauty and physiography, a land that never ceases to intrigue and enchant. The abode of the kings has managed to retain its ethnicity and owes its charisma and colour to its enduring traditional way of life.

Rajasthan is culturally rich and has extensive tradition in art and culture, which reflects the Indian way of life. The dance, music and art forms have been consciously cultivated and patronised by the erstwhile royal courts. The harmonious unison of the indigenous musical instruments, lilting tunes and songs that depict day-to-day life and chores are simple yet fascinating and mesmerising. Rajasthan's cultural sphere is amazing, it has an equally rich and varied folk culture from villages, many a times these simple folk forms are creatively converted to highly cultivated classical music and dance, with their own distinct style.

The desert State of Rajasthan, reverberates with heroic deeds and romance of a bygone era. This vibrant and striking region, a land of irony and extremes was ruled for many years by the Rajput warrior clans. The Rajputs were prolific builders, their legacy is so evident from a trail of beautiful and romantic cities that are amazing troves of architectural wonders. The imposing forts and magnificent palaces that dots the arid Aravali landscape has its very own story of courage, gallantry, tragedy and survival to tell, intricately carved temples, beautiful havelis (traditional, ornately decorated mansions) and the step wells hold travellers spellbound. Some of the prominent and fascinating architectural heritages of Rajasthan are Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Amer Fort, Ranakpur and Dilwara Temples, Chittaurgarh Fort, Lake Palace Hotel, Palace of Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh Fort and havelis of Jaisalmer.

A vast and wondrous state, with treasures more sublime than those of fable, the Land of the mighty Kings paints a bold image. This diverse and enchanting state is a travellers dream. Compiling a must-see list in Rajasthan can nonplus any traveller- the golden sandcastle at Jaisalmer, the grandeur and palaces of Udaipur, museums of Bikaner, world famous bazaars of Jaipur, Meherangarh looming over the blue Jodhpur horizon, the air of reverence and carnival charm of Pushkar, the unexplored splendours of Bundi, the ornate havelis dotting Shekhawati, National Parks at Ranthambhore, Sariska and Bharatpur and the scenic beauty of Kota, Dholpur, Karauli & Barana see them all and see how a month flies by faster than the Palace-on-Wheel - the luxury train, designed specially to offer an exclusive, exciting and wonderful train ride into a magical world.

The magic of vibrant Rajasthan - its colourful culture and warm people, glitz, camels and exciting desert safaris, soulful music, glittering saris and tottering turbans, a surprisingly rich cuisine, shimmering sand-dunes, amazing lush forests and varied wildlife makes it a destination nonpareil - a vast open-air museum with its relics so well preserved that it delights even the most skeptical traveler.
