Pali is a town in Rajasthan state of western India. Pali, with its glorious historical past, is an important district of Rajasthan expanding its boundaries in South-West to Sirohi district from Ajmer district and Nagour district in North-East. It is situated on the bank of the river Bandi.

Pali, apart from the beautiful temples has numerous places of interest that draws visitors in hordes. The architectural wonder in marble the Ranakpur temples, the large Jawai Dam, the ancient Parshuram Mahadev Temple, Jadan Aashram are some of the famous places worth visiting in Pali district

 

The Ranakpur Temples are the famous, magnificent Jain temples built during the reign of Rana Kumbha of Mewar in 15th Century. The Ranakpur temple complex is known for its exquisite architecture and natural beauty. It has 24 halls containing 1440 pillars, each different from the other, aesthetically covered in intricate, delicate carvings. The Central temple dedicated to the Jain Thirthankara Adinath ji, is called Chaumukha (four-faced).

 

Somnath Mandir is famous for its historical background and Shilp Art. It is situated at the centre of Pali city. It was constructed by the then King of Gujarat, Kumarpal Solanki in the Vikram Samvat era 1209. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the premises of the temple there are many small temples of other deities.

 

Parshuram Mahadev Temple is atop of one of the hills of the Aravalli mountain ranges in the Desuri tehsil.  A natural Shivling in a cavern on the hill is a major attraction of the devotees of Lord Shiva. Around 400 narrow steps atop the hill leads to this cavern. Legend has it that the great ascetic, Parshuram from the Ramayana era, practised penance in this cavern. Fairs are also organised here twice a year.

 

Jawai Dam (bandh) built on the River Jawai in Sumerpur tehsil of Pali district, has a quintessential charm luring visitors to spend days in tranquility amidst sheer wilderness. Nestled in the Arravali ranges, with wonderful surroundings it has retained its pristine beauty, where one can truly experience untouched glory of nature. The green cover along the range heightens the splendour with a subtle touch lending a beautiful, serene and tranquil backdrop to one of the countrys leading leopard getaway destinations.

 

This area, a paradise for migratory birds in winter and the dam is a host to the Jawai Dam Crocodile Sanctuary, where marshy crocodiles bask on the dam shores. The dense woods in the vicinity of the dam are an ideal place to spot leopards on the prowl. The panther, bear, hyena, wolf, nilgai, chinkara, jackals, and jungle cats, too are residents of these hills. The dam and its surroundings are home to sarus cranes, comb duck, spotbill duck. During the winter, demmossile, common eastern crane, barheaded geese and other migrating birds descend on the waters.
