Mahabaleshwar is the largest hill station in the Sahyadri range in Satara district of Maharashtra. Due to its high altitude, pleasant weather surrounded by one of the few dense evergreen forests of the world, made it a much coveted locale for the British Raj and served as the summer capital of Bombay Presidency.

 

The city is captivating not just for its astounding natural diversity but also for the fascinating tales spun around its most favoured points. It is also known for its honey and strawberries. The River Krishna rises at Mahabaleshwar flows across Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh before emptying out into the sea. The legendary source of the river is a spout from the mouth of a statue of a cow in the ancient temple of Mahadev in Old Mahabaleshwar.
