Dholpur is a city in eastern-most parts of the state of Rajasthan. It was formerly seat of the Dholpur princely state, before Independence.


It is bordered by Bharatpur district of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to the north, Madhya Pradesh to the south, Karauli district to the west and Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to the east.


Although this small hamlet, neither popular nor much favoured amongst the myriads of enchanting tourist destinations of Rajasthan, yet it exudes charm captivating visitors with a plethora of amazing mythological and historical facts, monuments and pristine locations.  Dholpur is a definite Yes if one has eastern Rajasthan on the travel list.


A waterfall in Sarmathura is amazing and clearly visible in rainy season [JulySeptember]. It is the main tourist spot in whole district. Besides this, Damoye has a long and green forest range with wild animals.


Muchchhkund is about 4 km from the town of Dholpur, is an ancient sacred place. commanding a picturesque view. The place is named after Raja Muchchhukand, the 24th of the Suryavanshi Dynasty (the solar race) who is said to have reigned nineteen generations before Lord Ram. According to legend, Raja Muchchhkund was asleep here when demon KaalYaman (while pursuing lord Krishna) accidentally woke him up. The demon KaalYaman was reduced to ashes, with the powers of a divine blessing bestowed upon the Raja. It is now a sacred place for pilgrims.


Talab Shahi, 27 kilometres from Dholpur (and 5 kilometers from Bari) is a picturesque lake. The lake and the adjoining palace were built in 1617, as a shooting lodge for Prince Shah Jahan. Much later the area was maintained by the ruler of Dholpur. The lake attracts a large number of migratory birds such as pintail, shoveller, red crested pochard, common pochard, tufted duck, garganey teal, wigeon and gadwall.


Shergarh Fort is an old fort of historic importance, located toward the south of Dholpur tower. This monument was built by Sher Shah Suri on the site of an earlier Hindu fortress.


Ramsagar Sanctuary with the picturesque Ramsagar Lake, supports rich aquatic life including fresh water crocodiles, a variety of fish and snakes. Water birds such as cormorants, white-breasted water hen, moor hen, jacanas, river tern, ringed plover, sand piper, and green and purple herons are quite common. During the winters migratory ducks and geese make this site there breeding ground.
